I’m Brier Collins. Artist, designer, creative director, and the person who will probably ask if you’re throwing that away.
OLD THINGS.
THE STORIES THINGS CARRY
I grew up in Jasonville, Indiana, and now call Chicago home. I’ve always liked making things and seeing what I could do with what was around me.
That carries into my art and design. I love an old photograph, a good typeface, a worn chair with potential. Sometimes it becomes part of a piece. Sometimes it comes home with me while I figure that out.
My work moves between painting, illustration, branding, and digital design. I’m currently Creative Director at ALIYA Healthcare, where I put that range to work across brands, spaces, and the things people see and use every day.
Whatever I’m making, I want it to feel considered, have some personality, and do what it’s supposed to do.

THREE THINGS TO KEEP
I like a detail that catches you off guard. Something a little odd, or a joke that takes a second to land.
I want you to see the hand in it. The brushstroke, the cut edge, the thing that happened while I was figuring it out.
I pay attention to what catches my eye, then follow it. It’s how a lot of my best ideas start.
I like things with history. Things that have been held, worn, painted, forgotten, repaired, or left behind.
I like beautiful things that are a little strange. Strange things that are unexpectedly beautiful.
I like the seriousness of old portraits, the confidence of traditional design, and the humor in taking either a little too seriously.
I care about making things well. I also like leaving room for a rough edge, a delicate detail, or something funny. Those are often the parts I end up keeping.
I like seeing what happens when something familiar ends up somewhere unexpected.
I make things. I collect ideas. I rearrange the familiar.
Sometimes I improve it.
Sometimes I make it stranger.
Either way, I’m interested in what happens next.
